Natural remedies for headaches

For a natural headache remedy , there are a variety of herbs and physical treatments to try before resorting to the drug cabinet.Eucalyptus oil is often used in cold and flu remedies , because of its antibacterial, and antivirus attributes. Frequently these remedies have no side effects , and are all natural , though it should be noted that the relief is usually found after the identification of the cause. The most common causes are
- stress,
- muscle tension,
- blood pressure,
- eye strain,
- tiredness,
- sinus infections ,
- shortness of oxygen , and
- toxins in the blood.
Addressing these , will most often get to the root of the problem allowing you to effectively treat the headache effectively and quickly. For example , there is no point in treating a headache with garlic ( crushed or pill form) when the headache is stress related , as far as I am aware , garlic does not alleviate stress!
Most common form of headache is muscle tension. This can be realised by a rocking of the head , if the neck feels odd , or the muscles feel especially hard , and in the process of squeezing them hard gives a relief of pain , there is a good chance that you have a neck or upper shoulder muscle tension problem. This can be caused by cold,or keeping your head in a particular position for a prolonged period of time , such as reading a book or using a computer , even peeling potatoes.
Sometimes sleeping in a particular position can give you a muscle tension in the neck or shoulder area. Keeping a neck or head tensed in a particular position allows the muscles to store waste products , themselves a poison , and a blood flowing massage will help the body to pass them out. Massaging by self or trained therapists will alleviate and disappear this type of tension.
The back of the neck , around the eye ,bridge of nose and top of the cheekbones( sinus), and especially the shoulder area ; between the shoulder blades are a good place to start. Firm pressure and squeezing of the muscles , and any knots that are felt can be pressured and pushed back into a relaxed normal untangled shape. Prolonged tension of the neck can lead tomisalignment of the neck bones( vertebrae) , in this case it may be too late to self remedy and a trip to the local chiropractor will advise you if and longer procedures are necessary. if continual headaches occur than some techniques such as those in yoga will help immensely and will limit or stop and future discomfort, as well as tackle the next possible cause.

Related but not the same is stress. often this can be relieved by a walk , or even something enjoyable or mundane . See if you can realise what you have in your life that you find pleasing and relaxing, and try to participate in that as a routine , daily. This can be walking a dog, your own or someone elses, looking after a pet, cat or rabbits are good , if you have a garden , or even a window box , looking after plants are good for stress relief. Here again Yoga is a good source of calming pastime. Puttingchildren to bed early is also very effective. Massaging is also good here , but the key difference is that the massage is for relaxation and not the medical condition of the muscles.
See also teas below . A tea can also help with a calming effect as well as antioxidant and other properties.
Lack of oxygen is also a major cause. here again a walk outside or some exercise will help fill the lungs with air and get the blood flowing. Sleeping with open windows at night is also very good for you , and cuts down on the number of colds you will get in a year. Plants in the bedroom area bad idea . Plants do live on CO2 bit they also respire without light , filling the room with CO2 and drawing the oxygen in.If you cannot go for a walk some deep breathing by an open window for a couple of minutes should help.
