Refined sugar dangers

Sugar has been accused of contributing to many diseases and disorders, including diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and hyperactivity in children. But research studies have not provided evidence that sugar actually causes any of these conditions. What most nutritionists will confirm, however, is that the frequent consumption of sugar accelerates tooth decay.
Everybody has bacteria in the mouth that can form plaque (a film of mucus) on teeth. Sugar or starch that remains in the mouth becomes easily accessible food for the bacteria, which produce an acid that damages tooth enamel and causes cavities. Tooth decay is most strongly linked to the frequency of sugar consumption and the propensity for the sweet foods to cling to the teeth. Toffees, hard sweets and chewing gum, therefore, are more cariogenic than cakes.
It is better if sweet foods or sugary drinks are consumed with meals rather than between meals.
The role of sugar in obesity is more complex, since it is the total number of calories consumed that is important, rather than the calorie source. However, many sugary foods such as ice cream, cakes, biscuits and chocolates are also high in fat; people who eat large amounts of them may find that cutting down on these foods aids weight loss.

Acid only forms on teeth if plaque is present. It is important to clean and floss your teeth regularly to brush and clean the teeth and to floss on a regular basis.
Refined sugar , on its own or in other products can have negative effects on a great many people. It is generally believed that the sugar intake , on those that are susceptible, can trigger diabetes. This has been largely unsubstantiated , simply because not all people are triggered by the same , or any where near same , dose .
Recent studies suggest that this is genetic and those who have a genetic trait , defiency,or fault , can give rise to a failing condition. It is however wise to cut the ammount of sugar eaten to a minimal level. All the figures show , large intakes of sugar over a long period of time increases the risk if type 2 diabetes, or to be more accurate , those that would have developed the disease anyway, develop it much sooner.
Hyperactivity in children is also known to be linked to refined sugars. Included is also the loss of concentration, and bad behaviour, willfulness , and short term sleep disorders.

Sugar units
All carbohydrates are made up of molecules called saccharides. Simple sugars, such as glucose and fructose, consist of single ring-like units (monosaccharides). Table sugar (sucrose) is a disaccharide that is made up of two monosaccharides, glucose and fructose, connected by an oxygen molecule. Complex carbohydrates, or polysaccharides, are long, spiralling chains of many connecting monosaccharides that are usually glucose.
